Thermablate's company history.

ABOUT US

Idoman Limited is a privately owned Irish company whose primary focus is Women’s Health and minimally invasive therapeutic products.  The company was incorporated in July of 2007 for the purpose of acquiring the Thermablate EAS medical device product and its existing business worldwide.

Thermablate EAS is a minimally invasive medical device for the treatment of excessive menstrual bleeding or menorrhagia, and has been approved for sale in several markets around the world including the European Union, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.  Global Endometrial Ablation is currently the fastest growing hysterectomy alternative in Europe and is forecasted to continue to grow at above industry average rates over the next several years. The UK market growth is the principle catalyst to this overall increase and Thermablate has already shown significant potential in the United Kingdom. In 2007 the EU market for global ablation was valued at approximately $75 million, with growth forecast at 10% for the next several years

Based on a World Health Organization study, 19% of all women age 30 to 50 perceive their menstrual bleeding to be excessive. Current therapies available to treat menorrhagia include hormone therapy, dilation and curettage (D&C), endometrial resection and hysterectomy (surgical removal of the uterus). Of the 1.8 million hysterectomies performed annually worldwide, (600,000 in the US and 60,000 in Canada), treatment of dysfunctional uterine bleeding accounts for approximately 50% of these procedures. Both patients and physicians have become increasingly dissatisfied with many of the costly and often painful procedures, currently available, and are seeking less invasive treatment alternatives.

Integral to Idoman’s business strategy is the timely approval by the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) Bureau of Medical Devices of Thermablate EAS. The US market for Global Endometrial Ablation devices is currently estimated at 325,000 procedures or more than $300 million, a figure largely driven by the increased demand for minimally invasive treatment alternatives to hysterectomy.

As an increased number of both patients and physicians become aware of the existing treatments which allow for less invasive surgery options, the interest in Global Endometrial Ablation will only continue to rise. Currently approximately 7 million women in the United States suffer from menorrhagia, accounting for 65% of the 600,000 hysterectomies performed in the US each year.  It is estimated that between 30% and 50% of these women could avoid hysterectomy by opting for a simpler and safer technique, such as that offered by Thermablate EAS.

Thermablate EAS encompasses many of the features and benefits of its primary competition. The device’s fast treatment time of 2 minutes and 6 seconds, simplicity, effectiveness, and portability make Thermablate EAS the most efficient and minimally invasive option for the treatment of menorrhagia.
